Fick höra den sorgsna nyheten om din bortgång. Vila i frid. Mina första minnen av dig var som ung tjej då min pappa Fred lärde känna dig i början på 80-talet i Tanzania. Åren gick och jag fick genom Fred höra nyheter om dig, din familj och dina fina barn, nu saknad av alla.
The news of your passing Bjorn was shocking. You have gone too soon. We had a mission to accomplish, But you were suddenly called by our Almighty; We are left helpless and mourning. I had the privilege to work with you in several assignments including your last assignment here in Tanzania. I will always remember you for encouragement, commitment, quality, integrity, humility and sense of humour
RIP Bjorn
You will be missed by the global nutrition fraternity for a long time
It is a sad day to learn of Bjorns passing. Though we had not been in contact for quite some time, since he left WFP Rome, my memories of working with Bjorn in Ethiopia are still vivid and bring a smile to my face. Bjorn was a solid colleague, ever supportive and collaborative. He demonstrated what UN cooperation is all about. Thanks to him WFP was able to join forces with UNICEF in support of nutrition programs. Sending prayers to the family in their time of grief. May he Rest In Peace. You left us too soon but the angels above have welcomed you with open arms.
It is with a heavy heart that we share our condolences for our dear friend and colleague, Bjorn. We at the Food Economy Group have had the pleasure of working closely with Bjorn over the years and he has been not only a consummate professional, but a man of compassion and humour who was bursting with life. I remember many deep conversations (maybe with a glass of wine or two) where the commitment and inventiveness of the man was on full display. We will miss you dearly Bjorn and will honour you in our memories. And to the family, we are so sorry for your loss.
Thank you for always being caring and warm. Thank you for showing me and teaching me about parts of the world very far from my everyday life. Thank you for always being ready to have fun and for teasing my dad. You are greatly missed
Consultants and staff of Mokoro Ltd. met and worked with Björn several times over the years. It was always inspiring, and fun, to spend time with him, most especially when we were together in Tanzania. He was a great leader, a great teacher, a great human being - and we will miss him badly. He leaves a legacy of great achievements with UNICEF and in the world of nutrition - and so much love and so many warm memories...Our deepest sympathy to Pile and the family.
Dear Bjorn,
This is a very sad new and a lose for the nutrition community. You and Georgia have been the mentors that guided my professional life starting with the Joint Nutrition Programming in Ethiopia. It has a been taff but immense learning journey. Thanks for the support and inspiration you provided throughout that journey. May you rest in peace and continue to watch over us.
Dr. Ljungqvist, thank you for inspiring us with--among other things--the famous Iringa Nutrition Program in Tanzania which truly included communities in analysis and learning, as well as the understanding that the UNICEF conceptual framework has as its foundation that issues such as seasonality, gender, local livelihoods and resilience are basic drivers of malnutrition. This is an important message for these times and we promise to carry it forward.
This is such a great loss for the global nutrition community. The ideas and solutions coming from you for tackling nutrition problems had a human element. Your vibrant presence whether it is on the phone or in-person will be missed. Sincere condolences!
Too sad to see you going so suddenly.
Will miss your enormous kindness and your bright vision to fight the battle of malnutrition, a wonderful 'teacher', colleague and friend. Rest in peace.
Sincere condolences to your family.
Such a wonderful and generous colleague - I will miss your warmth, intelligence and passion for nutrition

So long to our REACH boss. I trust you enjoyed many interesting years since. Your smile will remain alive in our memories.
Ken and I are very sad to hear of Bjorn's passing and want to send our love and condolences to the family. Bjorn was such a lovely person and a good friend to both of us. I spoke to him earlier this year doing some work with UNICEF. During that nice conversation we shared many laughs about lovely old memories including some wonderful stories about working with Urban and Ken on the Iringa nutrition project. He sounded so happy. Rest in Peace Bjorn. Much love, Victoria and Ken
Rest in Peace Papa Bjorn
Björn, your kindness, compassion and energy made a difference. May your soul find light and rest in peace. Warmest greetings to your loved ones during this difficult times. Abraço amigo!
Björn. I renember you so fondly although I only met you a couple of times. I remember your humour, your openness and warmth. I remember going to a disco with Pile and you in Addis, your love of Kaviar and helping me out after an hour of being locked into your downstairs bathroom. I am grateful for my lifelong friendship with your son.
Love to Oskar, Ella, Annie, Pile and Ida. I know what you are going through and hope that you will continue to share with each other your memories of Björn for as long as you live. ️
Amigo, So sudden a news. Much flows through my memory. All pleasant and uplifting. Would have loved to have had a last talk with you... Hasta siempre.
Bjorn your memory will not fade in our hearts
Along with Urban both the best Nutrition Gurus. Children of Iringa /Tanzania/World will all be ever so grateful. I still remain "uncle from Iringa" for all your sweet children who are not little any more. May you Rest in Peace
In Iringa they didnt call him Dr. Ljunqvist or even Björn. He was Baba Oska, Oskar*s father. To be referred to as a father before anything else, is a real tribute, one that outshines all others he received in his lifetime. It signified acceptance, belonging.
Björn had rare qualities. His mind was driven by a huge sense of curiosity, the genuine kind. that allows you to draw people in almost effortlessly, to give, to share and to build amazing relationships - both in personal and working life.. That kind of curiosity and attitude made him stand out. He could fill a room easily and he radiated a love of life, of optîmism and a belief that he could achieve what he put his mind to. To be on the receiving end of that gift was a real privilege.
Dear Pile, Oskar, Ida, Ella and Annie, you have shared Björn with many others. And they are all very grateful to you. When he was with UNICEF Björn travelled a lot and he could not always be with you. But he cared so much about all of you and your well-being. First in Dar and later in Bangkok, where we met up again, you were always on his mind.
To me he was a friend first and a great and admired colleague first. What I take away most of all is the importance of curiosity. It really is what is what people need most in life; openness, sharing and the quest to understand others.
It is also why, like me, so many people will miss Björn. I hope that together all of us are able to provide you some comfort at this difficult time. Yes, mourning is very important and you should take time to grieve. But you should also celebrate Björns life and what he stood for. Make it a joyful celebration, allow your happy memories to take centre stage. And do not do it just once, do it regularly. He deserves to stay with you and with his grandchildren.
Blessings, Laetitia
Pappa Bjorn, Gone too soon and will forever be sorely missed.
